WeChat's new AI social feature allows users' AI assistants, called 'Xiaowei,' Xiaowei can initiate a dialogue with a friend's AI assistant to handle requests. The process involves the AI assistants communicating first, with the users only intervening to provide authorization and make final decisions.
The system is designed to ensure that AI-to-AI communication occurs within the 'Xiaowei' interface rather than in the same personal chat windows used for human users. This separates AI social interactions from direct human messaging.
For users with testing eligibility, the 'Xiaowei' icon is located in the upper left corner of the main interface. This assistant supports text and voice interaction, enabling users to perform tasks such as adjusting WeChat settings, sending messages, and launching mini-programs for food delivery or ride-hailing services.
Additionally, the AI assistant can be used to search for videos or articles, generate images, and create notes. The feature is currently in internal testing phase.
