WeChat Pay has officially integrated with Trenord, the operator of the Northern Italian railway network. This partnership allows passengers to purchase train tickets for routes including the Milan airport express, Como, and the Dolomites directly through automated vending machines.
This rollout marks the first instance of a European public transport operator providing full-scale support for WeChat Pay across its entire offline ticketing infrastructure. In addition to train tickets, the machines located at Milan airports and major stations now accept payments for Milan metro tickets.
To incentivize usage, a promotional campaign will run from October 1 to October 31, 2026. During this period, users selecting WeChat Pay at Trenord kiosks can receive a random discount of up to ¥88. Furthermore, customers can access additional exchange rate benefits via the WeChat Pay Global Rewards mini-program.
The payment process requires users to select their destination and ticket type at the kiosk, choose WeChat Pay as the payment method, and scan the generated QR code using the WeChat application.
