Waymo has launched a new transit rewards program in the San Francisco Bay Area, designed to incentivize the use of public transportation alongside autonomous ride-hailing. The initiative provides users with Waymo Cash when they combine a Waymo trip with public transit using a linked Visa card.

To participate, riders must link their Visa card within the Waymo app. When a user completes a Waymo trip and a public transit ride within a 2-hour window, they receive $2.85 in Waymo Cash, an amount equivalent to a standard bus fare in San Francisco. The program covers all 27 transit agencies in the Bay Area that support contactless Visa payments.

The rollout begins with employee access, followed by a gradual public release in the coming weeks. Waymo plans to expand this program to additional cities in the future, aiming to integrate its all-electric autonomous fleet more effectively into existing urban mobility ecosystems.

In addition to the rewards program, Waymo is partnering with Caltrain to lease 40 dedicated parking spaces at stations for its vehicles. This move is intended to facilitate easier transfers for commuters and serves as a model for potential future collaborations with other transit agencies.
