Wallbox Chargers is closing its manufacturing facility in Arlington, Texas, which opened in autumn 2022. The company intends to consolidate all production at its primary site in Barcelona. This decision follows a broader operational shift and a restructuring of debts totaling nearly €170 million.
The Arlington plant was initially designed with an annual capacity of 250,000 charging units. At the time of its launch, the company had set a long-term goal to reach a capacity of one million units by 2030. These plans have now been abandoned in favor of the Spanish production hub.
Despite the closure of the US factory, Wallbox maintains that it is not exiting the North American market. The company will continue to supply its customers in the region directly from Spain. Production of DC chargers and AC units for Canada had already been moved to Barcelona earlier this year.
The manufacturer has been active in strategic acquisitions, including the purchase of the insolvent German company ABL in 2023. Wallbox secured the majority of ABL's operating assets for approximately €15 million. The current restructuring reflects the company's efforts to address its worsening financial situation.
