Specialists from the All-Russian Thermal Engineering Institute (VTI) have registered a new software solution designed to calculate fuel supply system performance. The tool is specifically intended for power plants transitioning to non-standard coal types, with initial deployment planned for a major Siberian facility.

The software models equipment behavior by analyzing coal characteristics, including ash content, moisture levels, and calorific value, alongside daily fuel consumption during peak operations. It compares these inputs against the passport data of existing fuel supply components to determine if the equipment can handle the alternative fuel.

The application provides technical assessments for each equipment group, allowing operators to evaluate technological risks and plan necessary upgrades. This approach enables power plants to make informed decisions regarding fuel changes without the need for expensive, large-scale physical testing during the initial planning stages.
