VPG LaserONE, part of the Softline Group, has developed a patented technology for hot laser marking of metal. The system allows for the application of machine-readable QR or DataMatrix codes directly onto metal heated to 800–950°C without stopping the production cycle.
The equipment utilizes a nanosecond fiber laser with an average power starting from 5 kW and pulse energy in the tens of mJ. The scanner forms codes up to 75x75 mm by creating grooves several hundred micrometers deep, ensuring the mark remains a permanent part of the material.
The process takes less than 60 seconds and eliminates the need for surface cooling. Unlike traditional mechanical or paint-based methods, this solution supports automatic reading and prevents damage to the identification marks during processing.
The development is protected by Russian patent number 2852885, issued on December 16, 2025. The technology has already been tested by a major steel holding and is now available for commercial implementation across the metallurgical and heavy machinery sectors.
