Volvo has unveiled updated versions of its XC60 and XC90 SUVs, which now feature long-range plug-in hybrid powertrains. These models are equipped with a 41.2 kWh battery, allowing the XC60 to achieve an electric range of up to 78 miles, while the XC90 offers up to 73 miles. These figures exceed the 54-mile range of the Toyota RAV4 PHEV.
The refreshed vehicles include updated interior and exterior designs, such as Thor’s Hammer LED headlights and a new dashboard. The infotainment system now features an 11.2-inch screen integrated with Google Gemini AI. Both models will support over-the-air software updates to maintain system functionality throughout their lifecycle.
Production of these long-range plug-in hybrids is scheduled to commence in the fall, with customer deliveries anticipated in early 2027. While pricing for the new variants remains unannounced, the company currently offers the 2026 XC60 PHEV starting at $62,545 and the 2026 XC90 PHEV starting at $77,595.
In other developments, Volvo plans to discontinue the EX40 in the US market after the 2027 model year. The company intends to introduce an entry-level electric SUV, tentatively named the EX50, by the end of 2027 with a starting price of approximately $50,000. Meanwhile, the 2027 EX60 P6 Plus is currently priced from $59,795.
