Volvo has unveiled the 2028 XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrid SUVs, which the company claims will offer the longest electric-only range for such vehicles in the United States. The XC60 achieves 78 miles of electric range, while the XC90 reaches 73 miles on a single charge.
Both models feature a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a more powerful battery and electric motor. The powertrain delivers 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque. The XC60 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while the XC90 takes 5.0 seconds.
The XC60 receives a mid-cycle facelift, including a redesigned front bumper, grille, hood, and updated Thor’s Hammer LED headlights. The interior now includes Cardamom brown leather and Brown Ash wood inlays, with an 11.2-inch touchscreen running Google Gemini.
Safety upgrades include a new 360-degree camera system and cyclist detection. The vehicles are equipped with active brake assist and driver assistance technology. The XC60 T8 Polestar trim has been removed from the lineup, leaving the standard T8 as the performance option.
The 2028 XC60 T8 is scheduled for release in late 2027, with the XC90 following shortly after. While official pricing is not yet confirmed, estimates suggest the XC60 will start around $65,000 and the XC90 around $80,000.
