Voltus, a San Francisco-based energy technology firm, has secured $225 million in a Series D funding round. The investment was led by Generation Investment Management, with participation from Vitol SA and Activate Capital. Prior to this round, the company had raised approximately $66 million in total equity since its founding in 2016.

The company operates a virtual power plant and a distributed energy resources platform that connects capacity to North American electricity markets. In 2025, Voltus reported $240 million in customer earnings and savings, while managing 8.1 GW of flexible capacity and delivering 816,000 MWh of grid relief.

The new capital will be used to expand the platform, specifically targeting data centers struggling with grid interconnection delays due to rising AI demand. Voltus offers a service called Bring Your Own Capacity to help hyperscalers manage these bottlenecks. The firm has existing partnerships with Google, Sunrun, and Siemens.

In June 2026, Voltus acquired Brightfield AI, a developer of energy storage software. The company previously raised $25 million in a Series B round in 2020 and $31 million in a Series C round in 2021.
