Volkswagen has unveiled its Future Plan 2030, which includes a total workforce reduction of approximately 100,000 employees worldwide. This figure includes 50,000 new job cuts across the group, adding to a previously announced reduction of 50,000 positions at Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Cariad.

The automaker is evaluating the future of four German production sites: Emden, Zwickau, Hanover, and Audi’s Neckarsulm factory. Vehicle production at these locations may cease between 2031 and 2034 as current vehicle allocations expire. The company plans to finalize a new production strategy for its European plants by June 2027.

The restructuring aims to address overcapacity, as European factories currently produce over 500,000 more vehicles annually than market demand requires. Volkswagen intends to reduce its global model lineup by roughly 50% by 2035 and cut equipment variants by about 75% to simplify operations and reduce costs.

The company will also streamline its business portfolio, platforms, and software architectures, with non-core operations slated for sale or reorganization. Volkswagen plans to invest €135 billion in R&D and capital projects between 2027 and 2031, targeting an annual sales volume of 9 million vehicles by 2030.
