Volkswagen plans to replace the ID.4 and ID.5 electric models in the European market with the new ID.Tiguan starting early next year. While production of the ID.4 has already ceased in the US as of April 2026, manufacturing will continue in China until a new global model is introduced.

The ID.Tiguan is scheduled for an official premiere in early October. The vehicle will feature a design with straighter body lines and updated lighting. Volkswagen intends to address previous consumer criticism regarding the lack of physical controls by incorporating buttons into the new interior, similar to the ID.3 NEO and ID.Polo models.

The company will sell the electric ID.Tiguan alongside the traditional Tiguan, which remains available with internal combustion engines and hybrid powertrains. The Tiguan nameplate is currently the most popular model across the entire Volkswagen Group, with over 1 million units of the Tiguan and Tayron sold last year.

Since 2021, Volkswagen has sold 950 000 units of the ID.4. The company views the ID.Tiguan as a key driver for future sales volume, following a year in which the brand sold approximately 382 000 electric vehicles globally.
