Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schafer confirmed that the company is developing a second generation of the ID. Buzz electric minivan. The current model has been on the market for four years and will receive updates before the new version arrives.
The upcoming vehicle will transition to the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). This new architecture is designed to improve range, increase charging speeds, and provide a better software experience compared to the current MEB platform.
The manufacturer aims to reduce the price of the next-generation model to improve sales performance. The company plans to leverage the SSP platform to spread research and production costs across multiple models.
Schafer noted that the use of lower-cost lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries is being considered as a strategy to lower the final price. The company intends to continue utilizing its heritage design elements in future products.
