Volkswagen has initiated a recall for 49,958 Tiguan SUVs from the 2025 model year. The action, reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on September 10, 2026, addresses a software fault in the body control module that may cause the engine to shut off while the vehicle is in motion.

The software error can trigger a module reset, leading to the loss of critical functions, including warning lights, exterior lighting, and the rearview camera. The defect violates four federal safety standards related to vehicle controls, displays, transmission sequences, and visibility systems.

The manufacturer, under recall number 57KL, will provide a free software update at dealerships to resolve the issue. Owners can verify if their vehicle is affected by entering their 17-character VIN into the federal recall lookup tool, as notification letters are not expected until November 6, 2026.

The recall affects vehicles produced between March 24 and August 30, 2025. This campaign follows other recent safety actions for the 2025 model year, including a recall for 3,138 vehicles due to passenger airbag issues and a separate action involving 15 vehicles with a loose tie rod bolt.
