The Volkswagen ID. Polo has been named the best small car in the Budget category at the German Car of the Year 2026 awards. The electric model outperformed seven competitors, including the Renault Twingo and Renault Clio, to secure the top position.
The international jury of 47 experts awarded the vehicle top marks in four out of five evaluation criteria. The car achieved a rating of 85.8 percent for design and driving pleasure, 84.2 percent for safety and environment, 83.8 percent for significance and innovation, and 82.0 percent for comfort and practicality.
In addition to its category win, the ID. Polo received recognition in cross-category design awards. It placed second for the Best Interior Design and third for the Best Exterior Design among all vehicles evaluated by the jury.
The ID. Polo is an all-electric version of the long-standing Polo model, which has seen over 20 million units sold historically. Developed in Wolfsburg, the new vehicle features front-wheel drive and is currently available for purchase at a starting price of €24 995.
