Volkswagen has officially delayed the return of the ID. Buzz to the US market, shifting the launch to the first half of 2027 as a 2028 model year vehicle. This adjustment means the US will skip a second consecutive model year for the electric van.

The updated 2028 model will incorporate several technical improvements, including NACS charging via an adapter, one-pedal driving, and physical steering wheel buttons. Additionally, the vehicle will feature new software, vehicle-to-load functionality, and a digital key.

The company also plans to introduce the Tourer trim line, designed for camping, which draws inspiration from the European Good Night Package. Volkswagen has not yet disclosed specific details regarding potential changes to the battery, drivetrain, or total range.

The ID. Buzz, produced in Hanover, debuted in the US in November 2024 with a starting price near $60,000 and an EPA range of 234 miles. In 2025, the company delivered 6,140 units, while sales in the first half of 2026 reached 2,481 vehicles.

Volkswagen continues to emphasize the importance of the ID. Buzz for its US portfolio despite broader shifts in its American electric vehicle strategy. The manufacturer intends to share further specifications for the 2028 model in the coming months.
