Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has released a new 'paranoid mode' wrapper for AI agents on GitHub. The system is designed to enhance user privacy by routing all agent activity through the Tor network using a bwrap sandbox and torsocks.

The architecture assigns a unique Tor circuit to every conversation and utilizes zkAPI to facilitate payments in ETH without exposing user identity. Additionally, the system performs local prompt rewriting using the Qwen model to prevent data leakage.

Buterin noted that while the current setup is functional, it introduces significant latency, particularly when initiating new sessions. He suggested that a specialized mixnet would be more effective than Tor for mitigating timing-based attacks from LLM providers.

The project was developed by Open Anonymity in collaboration with the Ethereum Foundation. Buterin also indicated that lower gas costs for zkAPI deposits and withdrawals are expected to arrive on the mainnet in the near future.
