Visa reports an annualized stablecoin settlement volume of $20 billion, marking a 15-fold year-over-year increase. The company currently supports over 160 stablecoin-linked card programs across more than 100 global markets, with payment volumes rising nearly 200% annually.

On-chain data indicates that retail stablecoin transfers under $250 grew from $0.5 billion in 2019 to $69.8 billion in 2025. This growth coincides with the passage of the GENIUS Act on July 18, 2025, which established a federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins in the US.

The legislation mandates that issuers back tokens with high-quality liquid assets and introduces consumer protections similar to bank deposits. Following this, an FIS survey from November 2025 revealed that 74.8% of US respondents would consider using stablecoin services from their primary bank.

The same research found that 66.3% of consumers are more likely to use stablecoins if they include FDIC-style insurance. Meanwhile, fewer than 4% of respondents expressed interest in unregulated alternatives, highlighting a shift in consumer preference toward regulated digital assets.
