Vermont Gas (VGS) and Dandelion Energy are collaborating to install geothermal heating and cooling systems at the Riggs Meadow development in Hinesburg, Vermont. The project consists of 44 townhomes and apartments designated for low- and moderate-income residents.

Under the agreement, VGS will fund and own the underground infrastructure, specifically the ground loops, while Dandelion Energy manages system design and drilling. This arrangement relieves developers, Champlain Housing Trust and Evernorth, of the initial installation costs.

The geothermal system will serve four multifamily buildings, which account for 36 of the total 44 homes. Each of these buildings will feature its own dedicated ground loop. Residents will own the indoor equipment and pay a monthly fee to VGS for using the ground loops.

Drilling operations are slated to commence in early 2027. The project is expected to be completed with residents moving into the new homes by late 2027. VGS operates this geothermal initiative through its subsidiary, Clover Energy.
