AWS, Cisco, Intel, and Nvidia have joined the 6G Innovation Forum, an initiative launched by Verizon on September 22, 2025. These companies join founding partners including Ericsson, Samsung Electronics, Nokia, Meta, and Qualcomm Technologies to focus on practical 6G development and prototyping.

The forum aims to identify real-world use cases and test emerging network technologies. Planned activities include testing new spectrum bands and coordinating with 3GPP standards. The organization is also establishing dedicated 6G Labs, with the first site planned for Los Angeles.

On September 14, 2026, Verizon and Samsung conducted an AI-powered Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) trial at a sporting event in Dallas. The test utilized a virtualized radio access network to demonstrate simultaneous data communication and environmental sensing capabilities.

The industry targets 2028 for 3GPP standards work, with a commercial rollout expected around 2030. The initiative aims to integrate AI at the network layer, while testing new spectrum bands to provide data for future government frequency allocation decisions.
