Valve has released the SteamOS 3.9.2 beta update, now available through the system update channel. This version consolidates changes from the 3.8 stable release and previous 3.9 preview iterations, focusing on stability and hardware compatibility improvements.
Key fixes address issues with Steam Remote Play on Steam Machines, frame rate limitations in VR, and input loss in game mode. The update also resolves compatibility problems for games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 on Intel Panther Lake CPUs, alongside a fix for system crashes on Legion Go 2 devices.
The desktop mode environment has been upgraded from Plasma 6.4.3 to 6.7.3. Additionally, the system now defaults to the wpa_supplicant WiFi backend for new installations to improve network compatibility, while enhancing sleep-wake reconnection performance.
The update introduces preliminary support for hibernation, including kernel-level enhancements to manage sleep requests and driver stability. Furthermore, Valve has renamed numerous scripts and packages from steamos- to holo- and improved support for running SteamOS as a virtual machine.
