The inaugural meeting of the Uzbekistan-EU Working Group on Investment and Financial-Technical Cooperation took place in Tashkent on September 29. The session focused on the implementation of the European Union's €12 billion investment package designated for Central Asia under the Global Gateway initiative.
The meeting was co-chaired by Akram Aliyev, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, and Peteris Ustubs, Director at the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships. Discussions covered joint projects in energy, water management, transport, and digital connectivity.
The agenda also included cooperation on climate initiatives and critical raw materials. The parties explored methods to attract European banks, development institutions, and private capital to fund joint ventures, while also discussing the expansion of EU grant and technical support programs.
The participants agreed to establish the working group as a permanent coordination mechanism. This platform aims to develop a unified project portfolio and transition toward the execution of specific investment programs, including funding opportunities within EU frameworks for the 2028–2034 period.
