The S&P Global flash Services PMI for the United States reached 58.7 in September. This figure represents an increase from the 56.5 recorded in August and significantly exceeds the consensus forecast of 55.8.
The index, which tracks business conditions across sectors like finance, real estate, healthcare, and hospitality, remains well above the 50-point threshold that indicates economic expansion. This result marks the highest level in the series since the recovery began in mid-2020.
In a global comparison, the US performance outpaced other major economies. On the same day, the euro area composite index was reported at 53.1, Germany’s services PMI at 52.9, and the UK’s services reading at 51.7.
Market analysts suggest that the robust growth in the services sector may influence the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy. Stronger economic activity could reduce the urgency for rate cuts, potentially impacting yields on two-year Treasury bonds.
