The US Department of Labor reported that initial jobless claims for the week ending September 12 reached 196,000. This figure is seasonally adjusted and falls 11,000 below the consensus estimate of 207,000.

The data represents a decline of 10,000 claims compared to the previous week, which was revised to 206,000. The four-week moving average currently stands at approximately 203,000.

Since mid-2026, weekly claims have fluctuated between 187,000 and 230,000. A similar low point occurred in mid-July, when figures briefly dropped to the 187,000 to 189,000 range.

Analysts note that a tight labor market may influence the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy. Current employment data suggests less urgency for rate cuts, as the Fed balances stable prices with employment.
