Over the past three days, the US government transferred 17,795 Bitcoin, with a total value of approximately $1,5 billion. Data from Arkham Intelligence and Galaxy Research indicates that these assets were moved from government-linked wallets to Coinbase Prime.

Specifically, between October 7 and October 8, 2026, authorities moved 9,261 BTC worth about $770 million. An additional batch of 833.6 BTC, valued at $71.6 million, was transferred alongside 40,285 BNB worth $31.6 million.

The US holds an estimated 319,000 to 325,000 BTC, valued between $27 billion and $28 billion, making it the largest sovereign holder of the cryptocurrency. These assets were primarily acquired through confiscations, including the Bitfinex hack and Silk Road cases.

In March 2025, an executive order prohibited the sale of assets from the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, with exceptions for victim compensation. Analysts suggest the current transfers likely represent routine custody management rather than an imminent liquidation of the holdings.
