US-listed exchange-traded funds have surpassed $1.5 trillion in net inflows during 2026, exceeding the previous annual record set in 2025. The current daily inflow rate for these instruments averages approximately $8.5 billion.
Data from VettaFi indicates that inflows reached $1.43 trillion by September 17. Cumulative flows hit the $1 trillion milestone by mid-June, with projections suggesting the year-end total could reach between $2 trillion and $2.3 trillion.
Global ETF assets reached a record $24.03 trillion by the end of August, with worldwide year-to-date inflows totaling $1.96 trillion. Fixed-income ETFs recorded inflows exceeding $440 billion in 2026, with specific products like SGOV, BND, and AGG each attracting over $10 billion.
Equity ETFs continue to see significant capital allocation. The Invesco QQQ ETF has captured $22 billion year-to-date. Industry growth is supported by the structural advantages of ETFs, such as lower fees, intraday liquidity, and tax efficiency, exemplified by the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) with its 0.03% annual fee.
The growth trend extends to active ETFs and derivatives-based strategies, including defined-outcome and buffer products. This shift reflects a broader investor preference for the ETF structure, which also facilitated the adoption of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs launched in the US in 2024 and 2025.
