Recent data from a study by Here Technologies and SBD Automotive indicates a significant shift in consumer sentiment regarding electric vehicles in the United States. Currently, 56% of American car owners are considering the purchase of an electric vehicle, a notable increase from the 10% recorded in 2025.
This shift in interest coincides with rising fuel costs driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Diesel prices at American gas stations have climbed above $6 per gallon, while regular gasoline is priced slightly over $4.30 per gallon. These figures translate to approximately $1.59 per liter for diesel and $1.14 per liter for gasoline.
Perceptions of charging infrastructure have also improved. The proportion of people who believe there are sufficient charging facilities has risen to 47%, compared to 28% last year. Furthermore, 85% of current electric vehicle owners report that the existing charging network is adequate to meet their daily driving needs.
