The Justice Department has issued a second request for data and documents from Fox and Roku. This is a standard part of a major antitrust review, indicating that the DOJ has further questions regarding the initial filings provided by the companies.
Fox's plan to acquire Roku for $22 billion is under scrutiny. The investigation focuses on how the merger would affect competition and consumers, as Fox owns a vast collection of news, sports, and entertainment content, including the free streaming service Tubi.
Roku operates a major platform with an operating system built into millions of TVs and streaming devices. Regulators are examining whether a Fox-owned Roku would prioritize Fox's own services, use Roku's data to boost its advertising business, или provide less favorable treatment to rival streaming services.
CEO Lachlan Murdoch has stated that he expects the two businesses to operate separately. The case is also being viewed as a test of the DOJ's impartiality, given the Murdochs' ties to President Trump and previous criticisms of the DOJ's handling of other politically sensitive media mergers.
