The Coinbase Premium Index, which tracks the price difference of Bitcoin on Coinbase compared to global exchanges, has remained negative for seven consecutive days. This trend indicates a decline in demand from US investors relative to international markets.

As of mid-September, the index reached -0.0205%. During this period, Bitcoin traded between $75,600 and $75,800. By September 16, the index showed venue-specific readings ranging from approximately -44.47 to -59.42.

The current decline follows a period where the index was negative for 97 consecutive days between May 19 and August 24. A previous low of -0.0983% was recorded in May 2026. Analysts view the negative premium as a signal of reduced institutional activity.

Coinbase serves as the primary custodian for most US spot Bitcoin ETFs. A negative premium often suggests that US institutions are acting as net sellers or are not actively accumulating assets, leading to lower prices on the platform compared to global venues.
