Uniswap has launched the VolatilePair Hook on the Ethereum mainnet, debuting with an ETH/USDC pool. This mechanism replaces a single flat fee with two dynamic fees for buying and selling, which are recalculated during every swap based on recent price trends.

The system introduces a temporary surcharge for trades that correct price deviations following significant market shifts. This feature aims to protect liquidity providers from losses typically incurred when arbitrageurs exploit static fees during periods of market volatility.

The exchange reports that trading volume for volatile pairs exceeded $500 billion in 2026. This follows the September 2026 release of the StablePair Hook, which recorded $3.1 billion in volume within its first four weeks.

Governance participants can adjust the hook's parameters and fee logic. The architecture is designed to allow future upgrades without requiring liquidity providers to migrate their positions, ensuring a more stable transition for users.
