Zurich-based deep tech startup UniSieve has raised $9 million in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Orano Venture Fund, managed by Supernova Invest, with participation from Amadeus APEX Technology Fund, Founderful, Zürcher Kantonalbank, and Guenat Holding. This latest injection brings the company's total funding to $25 million.
Founded in 2018 by Samuel Hess and Elia Schneider, UniSieve develops membranes using metal-organic frameworks and zeolites for industrial gas separation. The technology aims to replace energy-intensive thermal separation processes, which currently account for 10% to 15% of global energy consumption. The company focuses on manufacturing durable membranes for industrial scales.
The startup is preparing for commercial deployment in olefin production and point-source carbon capture. Polish chemical company Qemetica has already begun live testing a UniSieve carbon capture unit, where the captured CO2 is utilized on-site for carbonate production. The company emphasizes that its membrane-based systems eliminate the need for traditional heating or cooling cycles.
Investors highlight the company's transition from pilot projects to larger systems with paying clients as a key factor in their decision to provide further funding. UniSieve plans to use the new capital to scale production and convert market interest into consistent sales. The firm competes in a sector that includes other players like Svante and ARK Capture Solutions.
