The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed on September 10 that it is utilizing SpaceX's Starshield network for military communications. Britain is the first nation outside the United States to publicly acknowledge the deployment of this classified satellite system, currently operating approximately 1,000 Starshield terminals.

Alongside the Starshield hardware, the UK military uses 500 standard Starlink terminals. Since July 2022, the UK has spent nearly $40 million on SpaceX services. This includes £13 million for Starshield and £16.5 million for Starlink. Operational military data has been routed exclusively through Starshield since early 2026.

Global interest in the platform is rising, with New Zealand currently testing the technology. While UK spending is significant, it remains a fraction of the total US government contracts for Starshield, which exceed $6 billion. European nations, including France, continue to explore independent satellite alternatives to reduce strategic dependency.

SpaceX remains a private company, limiting direct investment opportunities. However, the expansion of military satellite infrastructure impacts publicly traded defense contractors and satellite operators, such as BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris, which compete or collaborate within this sector.
