The Ubuntu development team has released the roadmap for the upcoming Ubuntu 26.10, confirming that the operating system will ship with the Linux 7.3 kernel. This release is scheduled for launch in mid-to-late October of this year.
The integration of Linux 7.3 aims to provide day-zero support for new processor architectures, high-performance graphics chips, and embedded hardware. The kernel update also introduces improvements to memory scheduling and power efficiency algorithms for high-load computing environments.
Hardware compatibility enhancements include optimized performance for x86-64 and ARM64 architectures, alongside better support for new GPU hardware acceleration, Wi-Fi 7 protocols, and high-speed I/O interfaces. Virtualization and containerization features have also been updated to reduce system overhead.
Daily builds of Ubuntu 26.10 are currently incorporating the Linux 7.3 kernel for testing and stability verification. The development team is actively monitoring upstream patches to ensure compatibility across diverse hardware configurations before the official release.
