The service is available for UberX, Uber Electric, and Uber Comfort categories at no additional cost. Rides operate across the entire London urban area, with the exception of airports.
The fleet consists of battery-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles equipped with Wayve AI Driver, cameras, and environmental sensors. A TfL-licensed safety driver remains on board to monitor trips and intervene, meaning the rides are currently supervised autonomous trips.
The launch follows the issuance of Private Hire Vehicle licenses in August for several Wayve vehicles. While regulatory requirements have been partially met, approvals for fully driverless operations are still pending.
User interest is high, with over 140,000 people activating the autonomous ride option in the app, up from more than 100,000 registrations in August.
London is the first of twelve planned markets for the partnership. A similar service using Nissan Leaf vehicles and Nvidia Drive Hyperion-based AI is scheduled to launch in Tokyo later this year.
