The average cost of regular gasoline in the United States has remained above $4 per gallon for 158 consecutive days. This duration surpasses the previous record established in 2022. According to AAA, the current average price stands at $4.33 per gallon, marking a 46% increase from the $2.98 recorded in late February.
Research from Brown University indicates that rising fuel costs will increase annual expenses for the average U.S. household by more than $560. Diesel prices have experienced a sharper climb, rising approximately 72% since October 2025 to a national average of $6.30, with costs reaching $8.41 in California.
To address the supply situation, the administration announced a deal with Russia to secure 4.8 million metric tons, or approximately 36 million barrels, of diesel. Reports suggest this volume covers roughly 10 days of domestic demand. Meanwhile, fuel prices in the UK have risen to £1.75 per liter, up from £1.31 in February.
