Type One Energy, a Tennessee-based startup, secured $200 million in a Series B funding round to advance its fusion power plant project. This follows a previous $82.5 million investment from an extended Series A round. CEO Christopher Mowry stated that the current capital will support operations until the mid-point of the Infinity Two project development.

The company plans to build a 400 MW commercial fusion plant by 2034. Instead of vertical integration, Type One Energy utilizes a network of specialized partners. Commonwealth Fusion Systems provides high-temperature superconducting magnets, while AECOM handles engineering. The Tennessee Valley Authority will host the facility at the Bull Run site.

Mowry emphasized that this strategy significantly reduces the capital required for commercialization compared to building internal manufacturing facilities. While the company acknowledges risks associated with supply chain control, it maintains that these are lower than the costs of owning production infrastructure. The startup operates in a competitive sector alongside firms like TAE Technologies and General Fusion.
