President Donald Trump stated that the United States should maintain the world's lowest interest rates, regardless of economic data. This demand comes shortly before the Federal Reserve's upcoming Wednesday meeting. Recent Consumer Price Index data showed the largest increase in four months, influencing market expectations.

Traders currently estimate an 86% probability that the Federal Reserve will raise the benchmark interest rate from 3.5% to 3.75%. If implemented, this would be the first rate increase in three years. Inflationary pressures are currently driven by rising energy costs and existing tariffs.

The Federal Reserve meeting occurs weeks before midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress. Analysts suggest that political pressure from the administration is a factor influencing the decision-making process. Kevin Hassett, Director of the National Economic Council, noted that the administration expects the Fed to maintain independence.
