A consumer in Australia recently transitioned to an electric vehicle after their 20-year-old Suzuki Swift suffered a catastrophic engine failure. The replacement vehicle, an ex-demo MG4 Urban, was purchased for AUD 29,990. The owner received AUD 500 for the trade-in of the damaged internal combustion engine car.
The MG4 Urban was one of 514 units of this model sold in Australia during August 2026, ranking 12th in the local market. Sales data from the dealership indicates that electric vehicles now account for over 50% of their total sales volume, with an upward trend expected to continue.
The buyer opted for an ex-demo model to avoid contributing to new consumer goods production. The vehicle is primarily charged at home using solar power during daylight hours, specifically between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, which allows for a 20% charge increase using existing household energy infrastructure.
The MG4 Urban features a mobile application that allows for remote climate control and digital key sharing. This functionality is significant for the family, as a replacement physical key for the vehicle is priced at approximately AUD 700. The car is also equipped with a top-down camera system for parking assistance.
MG is preparing to expand its Australian lineup with the introduction of an electric ute, the MG U9. The vehicle is currently available for pre-order and is scheduled to be showcased at the Everything Electric Show in Sydney later this month.
