Toyota has updated the Land Cruiser 300 for the Japanese market, replacing the pure gasoline V6 engine with a hybrid powertrain. The new system combines a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6, an electric motor integrated into a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a 6.5 Ah nickel-metal hydride battery. It delivers 457 hp and 790 Nm of torque.
The hybrid version is 170 kg heavier than the gasoline model, and its fuel tank capacity has been reduced from 80 to 68 liters. Despite these changes, the vehicle maintains off-road capabilities, including the ability to ford depths of up to 700 mm. In case of a hybrid system failure, the vehicle can still operate using the internal combustion engine.
The lineup includes GX, ZX, and GR Sport trims. The hybrid powertrain is available for the ZX and GR Sport versions, which feature 7-seat configurations, while the diesel GX remains 5-seat. The diesel engine option is a 3.3-liter V6 producing 307 hp. Sales in Japan are scheduled to begin on October 1.
Pricing for the diesel models starts at ¥6.3 million for the GX, ¥8.75 million for the ZX, and ¥9.15 million for the GR Sport. Hybrid versions start at ¥9.8 million for the ZX and ¥10.2 million for the GR Sport, representing a premium of approximately $6,800 over comparable diesel variants.
Standard equipment now includes wireless charging and a cold climate package. Top trims offer dual 12.3-inch displays, a JBL audio system with 14 speakers, and advanced suspension systems like AVS or E-KDSS. Optional Modellista accessories, including body kits and 20-inch forged wheels, are available for approximately $3,500 and $6,000 respectively.
