Toyota conducted a durability test for its new Hilux BEV, the company's first electric pickup truck. The demonstration took place at Bentwaters airfield in Suffolk, where a 1,675 lb (760 kg) caravan was dropped from a height of 30 feet directly onto the roof of the vehicle.

Following the impact, the electric truck remained operational and was able to drive away. This challenge was selected based on a public vote conducted via Reddit, referencing a similar test performed on a combustion-engine Hilux by the Top Gear show in 2003.

The Hilux BEV features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 278 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. It is equipped with a 59.2 kWh water-cooled lithium-ion battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 160 miles, or 236 miles on a city cycle.

The vehicle supports DC fast-charging up to 125 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. It also includes the Multi-Terrain Select system with five drive modes. The truck is currently available for order in the UK starting at £42,170.
