Toyota has postponed the production of its all-electric Highlander model in the United States. The vehicle is now scheduled to enter production in the first quarter of 2027 and will be marketed as a 2028 model year vehicle.

The delay creates a potential inventory gap for Toyota dealers. As of September 10, the supply of current gasoline-powered Highlander models at U.S. dealerships was sufficient for only about 20 days of sales.

Toyota indicated that suppliers are maintaining established production schedules, suggesting that the manufacturing period for the current gasoline-powered Highlander will not be extended to bridge the gap.

The upcoming electric Highlander will be the fourth EV in Toyota's U.S. lineup. It will offer both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations with two battery options: 77kWh and 95.8kWh.

The 77kWh battery version is expected to provide a range of approximately 287 miles. The 95.8kWh front-wheel drive model is projected to offer a maximum range of about 320 miles.
