Toyota and Scania are expanding their partnership to test 40 Scania trucks equipped with Toyota's fuel cell systems. The vehicles will be deployed with logistics companies as part of the 'Pilot Partner' programme to evaluate technical performance, operational efficiency, and total cost of ownership under real operating conditions.
Toyota's third-generation fuel cell system, launched in 2025, features a compact design and 300 kW output. The company has also established collaborations with Sinotruk and the VDL Group for truck applications, and joined the Cellcentric joint venture with Daimler Trucks and the Volvo Group.
Toyota is also part of a new alliance for the commercialisation of heavy-duty H2 trucks in Germany, which is scheduled to unveil its strategy next week at the IAA Transportation. The first Scania trucks powered by Toyota's fuel cell technology are expected to enter operation in the first quarter of 2027.
