Toyota and Scania have announced a partnership to integrate hydrogen technology into heavy-duty logistics. Under the agreement, Toyota will supply its third-generation fuel cell systems for a fleet of 40 trucks. These vehicles are scheduled to begin operations on real-world routes in the first quarter of 2027.
The fuel cell system developed by Toyota provides a power output of 300 kW. The technology is specifically engineered for heavy commercial use while maintaining a compact form factor. The project is part of the Scania Pilot Partner program, which aims to test the performance of these trucks in demanding, daily operational environments.
The collaboration focuses on evaluating the technical reliability, operational efficiency, and total cost of ownership for hydrogen-powered transport. Scania and its selected partners will collect data to assess how these vehicles perform under intensive usage. This initiative is expected to support the expansion of hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
