The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand has finalized regulations that permit the listing of crypto exchange-traded funds on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. These new rules are scheduled to come into effect on October 16, 2026.
Initially, the scope of these ETFs is restricted to Bitcoin and Ether. The framework mandates that these funds operate as passive investment vehicles, tracking the price of the underlying asset while maintaining a net exposure of at least 80% to the specific cryptocurrency throughout the accounting year.
The regulator has implemented strict requirements for market participants. Fund assets must be stored with digital asset custodians regulated by the SEC. Furthermore, brokers are prohibited from offering margin loans for the purchase of these ETFs, and investors are required to confirm their understanding of the associated risks before trading.
The updated framework also expands the investment mandate for domestic funds. Mutual and private funds are now permitted to invest in locally established crypto ETFs, whereas previously their participation was limited to foreign crypto products. However, Thai brokers remain restricted from facilitating retail investment in overseas crypto ETFs.
