Texas Governor Greg Abbott has officially declared a statewide disaster across all 254 counties. This decision follows a significant rise in diesel prices and a growing fuel shortage within the region. The emergency measures are designed to address immediate supply chain constraints affecting local infrastructure.
The executive order temporarily permits the use of dyed diesel on public roads and increases weight limits for vehicles transporting fuel, timber, and agricultural goods. Furthermore, the state has formally requested a waiver from the Environmental Protection Agency to bypass federal requirements for ultra-low sulfur diesel.
The current economic situation is marked by high fuel costs, with the average price of diesel in Texas reaching $5.86 per gallon. In September 2026, the state recorded a peak price of $5.97 per gallon. These figures highlight the severity of the fuel market instability currently impacting the state economy.
