Tether, Pave Bank, and the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) signed a memorandum of understanding on July 22 to launch the Georgia-Singapore Fintech Scholars Programme. The initiative aims to fund university scholarships for students from Tbilisi State University to study at Singapore Management University.

The program is scheduled to begin in January 2027 and will span five years. It marks the first privately funded fintech scholarship and institutional exchange between Georgia and Singapore. The selection of participants will be managed jointly by the three partner organizations.

The agreement does not involve the issuance of any new products or tokens. Tether has been engaging with the Georgian government since 2023 regarding blockchain infrastructure and a potential lari-pegged stablecoin, with formal plans for the latter announced in May 2026.

Pave Bank, which holds a banking license in Georgia, completed a Series A funding round in 2025. The bank focuses on integrating traditional financial services with digital assets. GFTN, led by former Monetary Authority of Singapore official Sopnendu Mohanty, supports cross-border fintech collaboration.
