Owners of the six-seat Tesla Model Y L, produced at the Shanghai Gigafactory, report significant rear suspension sagging. The issue typically appears in vehicles with a mileage between 9,000 and 30,000 km, often after long trips or when the car is fully loaded. Users also report accelerated wear on the inner side of the rear tires.
Tesla has updated the official specifications for the model. The ground clearance under load has been reduced from 122 mm to 118 mm, while the overall vehicle height decreased from 1668 mm to 1664 mm. The ground clearance without load is now listed as 166 mm on the global website, compared to 169 mm in the Chinese manual. These changes were reflected after June.
The company is replacing springs under warranty, swapping the 2188477-00-A part for the 2188477-00-B version. Despite the repairs, some owners report that the sagging persists. Tesla internal guidelines define a rear wheel arch height of 784 ± 20 mm as normal, with replacements authorized only if the measurement falls below 764 mm. The manufacturer has not disclosed the cause of the defect.
