A Tesla Model S Plaid was involved in a severe accident on a German autobahn, with the vehicle's dashboard camera recording a speed of 286 km/h at the moment of the crash. The car lost control, rolled over, and landed off the road, resulting in the deployment of all airbags.

The vehicle, a 1020-horsepower tri-motor version, suffered extensive damage including a collapsed front crumple zone, detached wheels, and a dislodged motor. Despite the severity of the impact, the main frame of the car remained intact, providing sufficient survival space for the driver.

The car was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on the front and Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport tires on the rear, both rated for speeds up to 300 km/h. The driver stated that the accident was triggered by tread delamination on the rear tires.

The driver acknowledged that the rear tires were part of a known recall batch. Despite being aware of the recall, the individual proceeded to drive at nearly 286 km/h on the highway. The driver survived the crash with serious injuries and is expected to require several months for recovery.
