Tesla has initiated an over-the-air software update for specific Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, introducing a new immersive audio system. The update, starting from version 2026.14.11, converts standard stereo audio into a 360-degree surround sound experience using proprietary algorithms.

The feature is available for Model 3 Long Range AWD and Performance models manufactured from September 2023 onwards. For the Model Y line, it covers Long Range AWD, Performance, and the L variant produced from February 2025. The Model Y L also receives a new center speaker located below the second-row screen.

The system utilizes sound extraction technology to separate direct audio from ambient sounds, positioning the former in front and distributing the latter to side and rear speakers. This functionality works across all streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, without requiring specialized multi-channel source files.

Users can manage the audio settings via the vehicle's interface under the Audio menu. The system includes an adjustable slider for immersion levels and an automatic mode that dynamically adapts the sound processing based on the type of media being played.
