The first Cybertruck using lithium raw materials from Tesla's Gulf Coast lithium refinery has rolled off the assembly line at the Texas Gigafactory. This vehicle is equipped with Tesla's proprietary 4680 battery cells, where the battery-grade lithium hydroxide is sourced entirely from the company's own refinery.

The Gulf Coast refinery, located in Robstown, Texas, began construction in 2023 and is scheduled for official production by early 2026. The facility uses a low-acid environmental process to process spodumene concentrate into lithium hydroxide for the 4680 cell lines at the Austin factory.

This milestone creates a closed-loop supply chain within Texas, integrating lithium refining, battery production, and vehicle assembly. Previously, Tesla relied primarily on overseas factories for the refining of its battery lithium raw materials.

While the first prototype has been completed, Tesla has not released a timeline for large-scale implementation or specific dates for extending this domestic lithium refining to other 4680-based models, such as the Model Y.
