Czechia has officially recognized the provisional approval for Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, which was originally granted by the Dutch road authority RDW in April. This decision follows a thorough review of technical and operational documentation by the Czech Ministry of Transport, including consultations with Tesla representatives and European authorities.
The approval is based on Article 39 of EU Regulation 2018/858, which covers new technologies not yet fully addressed by existing European standards. With this move, Czechia becomes the seventh EU member state to permit the use of the system, joining the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, and Slovenia.
Tesla's FSD (Supervised) is currently classified as an SAE Level 2 advanced driver assistance system, requiring constant driver attention. To demonstrate the system's reliability to regulators, the manufacturer has launched a web dashboard providing data on distances covered and accident statistics.
A broader decision on EU-wide recognition of the system may occur soon. A vote within the Technical Committee – Motor Vehicles is expected as early as October 6. Approval requires a qualified majority of 15 out of 27 member states, representing at least 65 percent of the EU population.
